The Smashing Pumpkins

"X.Y.U." by The Smashing Pumpkins from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)

Suffice it to say that aside from Led Zeppelin, not many bands write great songs longer than seven minutes (moreover, how often do you enjoy a song over five minutes?). Billy Corgan & Co. took up seven minutes and seven seconds of their magnum opus to channel all of their anger into one defiant track. Taking their metal influences one step further (from their beginnings on "Bullet With Butterfly Wings"), the Pumpkins rock heavier than any of their contemporaries on "X.Y.U."; with Jason Newsted-like ferocity on bass and Billy's spine-tingling hardcore screams, this track proves the diversity of the Pumpkins while scaring away anyone looking for another "Disarm."

  1. You should take a listen to Opeth. 90% of their songs are >7mins.
They are categorized as Swedish Progressive Melodic Death Metal.

    Be patient with it.
One of my old school fav metal bands

If you get discouraged with the death growl on the vid, wait until 4:20
