Wilco

"Via Chicago" by Wilco from Summerteeth (1999)

A staple at any Wilco show, "Via Chicago" shows off the tightness of the band as they move from the soft, introspective sections into brief moments of chaos and then right back again. The build-up of chaotic sound breaks the ambiance of Jeff Tweedy's desperate vocals, but at the same time reflects the inner turmoil of the lyrics that comes from the constant touring of the band: the album was written primarily about Jeff's frustrations of having to be away from his family for so much of the year, while at the same time celebrating their success and the impact it has on their loved ones.
